I don’t know what it is with lighter roasts but I keep getting discouraged by the sharp-cheddar-like punch that a roast like this carries. I by no means disparage the artisanship of Mystic Monk, it is rather the flavor profile I’m critical of; this coffee has a strong underlying sharp tone that doesn’t go well with much of any creams or flavors I can pair with, it’s just too sharp and ‘light’ for my liking. I REALLY want Mystic Monk to offer more distinct darker-medium to medium-dark offerings that show more roast complexity and boldness without being charred tasting either—even better would be flavored medium-dark roasts, now that would be amazing. Do more medium-dark (Thanksgiving) and pumpkin spice-like coffees!
We ordered Pumpkin Spice and Jingle Bell Java ground coffees for a relative. He loves both and looks forward to them when available. The flavors are delicious and smell heavenly while brewing.
I absolutely loved the flavor of this coffee, hence the four stats, but I took one star away because something in the flavoring gives me terrible heartburn. Love all the other Mystic Monk coffees I have bought, and even loved this one, but I just can't drink it.
